Our Approach
High Desert Forage provides food security resources and life-skills support to foster families and youth aging out of care in Washoe County.
Our goal is to build formal partnerships with established food security organizations in the region, but we're starting where we are, with a hands-on pilot that proves the model works.
-
This November, High Desert Forage is launching its first meal kit distribution: Thanksgiving meal kits for foster families and transition-age youth in Washoe County. This pilot is being funded directly by HDF's founders and is intentionally small, a proof of concept that lets us demonstrate real impact as we pursue larger community partnerships and funding.
Every kit distributed this November builds the track record we need to source food at scale for the community members who need it most.
-
As High Desert Forage grows, our goal is to expand beyond one-time meal kits into consistent, year-round food security support. This will be paired with life-skills workshops that give transition-age youth the practical tools for independent living: budgeting, cooking, navigating adulthood without a safety net.
-
You can support High Desert Forage's Thanksgiving pilot by volunteering, spreading the word, or reaching out directly about the mission. As a young organization not yet registered as a 501(c)(3), High Desert Forage is not currently able to accept tax-deductible donations. If you'd like to help fund the pilot directly, please get in touch.
Every contribution helps us build the foundation for lasting change in Washoe County.
